  • State intercity buses: ALSA, Avanza, Interbus, Socibus, Bilman Bus and other state-licensed inter-regional operators
  • Routes crossing between different autonomous communities (e.g. Valencia → Madrid, Madrid → Bilbao, Santander → Oviedo)

What's NOT covered

  • High-speed trains (AVE, Alvia, Avlo)
  • Urban metro, trams, local buses (those are covered by separate regional schemes)
  • Regional bus operators (e.g. PESA in the Basque Country, e.g. Bilbao ↔ San Sebastián)
  • Routes within a single autonomous community operated by regional concessions

Key rule: if a bus route connects two different regions → covered. If it stays within one region → not covered (use Renfe instead).

Rules & Restrictions

  • Mandatory booking: every bus trip must be booked in advance (online or app). Just having the pass isn't enough.
  • Cancellation, buses: cancel at least 24 hours before departure or it counts as a no-show.
  • Cancellation, Renfe Media Distancia: cancel at least 60 minutes before departure.
  • 3 no-shows equals ban: three missed bookings without cancellation → pass is automatically cancelled (no refund) + 60-day ban on new passes.
  • No double-booking: you cannot book two trips in the same direction at the same time.
  • Tickets are personal: ID (passport, NIE, or DNI) checked at boarding — not transferable.
  • Booking fees: ALSA charges €0 with a free Alsa Plus account. Avanza charges €1.50 per booking for seat selection.
